MC Cable Damaged by Cable Tie

Talon Products recently received a damage report involving jacketed metal-clad cable. While investigating the cause of cable swelling, the electrical inspector discovered a metal cable tie had cut through the cable jacket. Once the cable’s environmental barrier was penetrated, moisture attacked the aluminum armor, which began corroding. Charles Darnell, president of Talon Products stated, “There are inherent risks when using metal banding or clamps on cables… including armored cables. When one compares the clamping area of both products, it is easy to see how electrically insulating Talon® cable cleats with their large clamping area can provide a high level of axial strain relief with low mechanical pressure on the cables.”
